Exercise Physiologists
Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs) play a vital role in the management and rehabilitation of individuals with low- to high-risk conditions and neurological conditions such as stroke,
Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, and acquired brain injuries.
Each program begins with a comprehensive assessment to understand the patient’s current physical capacity, mobility limitations, fatigue levels, motor control, and functional goals. This includes objective testing of strength, balance, coordination, cardiovascular fitness, and gait.
Following assessment, a tailored evidence-based exercise prescription is developed. This may involve:
- Strength and resistance training to reduce muscle weakness
- Balance and coordination exercises to improve stability and reduce fall risk
- Gait retraining and mobility drills to restore walking function
- Cardiovascular training to enhance endurance and reduce fatigue
- Neuroplasticity-focused movements to encourage motor learning and brain-body connection
All programs are evidence-based, progressively adjusted, and closely monitored to ensure safety and effectiveness.
Benefits of Exercise Physiology for neurological patients:
- Improved mobility, strength, cardiovascular health, independence and ability to carry out activities of daily living
- Reduced risk of secondary complications such as chronic health conditions, falls, strokes, pressure sores, and deconditioning
- Enhanced quality of life, confidence, and mental wellbeing
- Support in achieving personal goals such as returning to daily activities or work
- Long-term management strategies for chronic neurological conditions
In addition to neurological conditions, our Exercise Physiologists are qualified and experts in the management of individuals with musculoskeletal rehab (sprains, strains, tendinopathies, pre- and post-operative rehab, cervical, thoracic, lumbar,
osteoporosis,
osteoarthritis), metabolic, cardiovascular, respiratory, cancer and mental health conditions. They are versed in exercise prescription for all ages from young children to the elderly.
